The free app, called Polaroid UV Alert, is designed exclusively for iPhones and the Apple Watch and is also compatible with iPads and iPod Touch.
After a successful kick-off in June in Sweden, Spain and Italy, U.S. consumers will now have access to this useful resource.
International researchers, Polaroid points out, revealed that most people do not pay enough attention to eye protection and are not aware of the harmful effects of UV rays. Moreover, little care is paid to children’s eye protection, while children are at especially high risk of suffering damage from exposure to UV radiation. Only 50 percent of the population thinks that sunglasses are a must-have accessory to protect the eyes from harmful solar radiation, and more than 30 percent of them say they rarely wear sunglasses. Most people who wear sunglasses fall within the 25 to 54-year-olds age group.
With the aim of elevating consciousness about kids’ eyewear protection, Polaroid sunglasses, which is part of the Safilo Group created an innovative way to help parents take care of their children’s eyes. The UV app for iPhones and the Apple Watch has been developed to measure the UV radiation and alerts when the UV radiation reaches dangerous levels.
The UV mobile app is a tool designed for parents, with the aim of prevention and education about protection, since exposure of insufficiently protected eyes to UV rays can cause short- and long-term health problems, especially for children. The iPhone and Apple Watch app will also include information on Polaroid polarized sunglass lenses and lens technology, in addition to detailed information on UV radiation protection and clear directions on where to buy Polaroid sunglasses.
