TECHNOLOGY: Spectacle Lenses Digital Eye Lab Expands bluDEFENSE Portfolio By Andrew Karp Monday, September 12, 2016 12:00 AM HAWTHORNE, N.Y.—Digital Eye Lab (DEL), a division of ABB Optical Group, is expanding its bluDEFENSE portfolio with the addition of new bluDEFENSE lens materials. The new products feature blue light control technology built into the lens monomer, allowing beneficial blue-turquoise light to pass through the lens while absorbing and filtering damaging blue-violet light and preventing it from reaching the eye. The technology blocks 100 percent of harmful blue light at 420 nanometers. Minimal color distortion is a key benefit of bluDEFENSE lens materials, which appears clear. Available in four different lens materials—polycarbonate, 1.60, 1.67 and 1.74—the bluDEFENSE lens materials can be used in almost any lens design, the company said. In addition to the new lens materials, DEL will continue offering its Claris bluDEFENSE anti-reflective coating, which protects eyes by reflecting harmful blue-violet and ultra-violet light and allows only beneficial light to pass through the lens. The AR coating maintains the transparency of the lens and reduces scatter and glare for better vision and clarity. akarp@jobson.com
