ATLANTA—SECO International elected a new president and slate of officers during its annual House of Delegates meeting at SECO 2017, a major education meeting for eyecare professionals.

Lynn Hammonds, OD—first elected to the SECO International Executive Committee in 2013—was named president. She’s practiced optometry at EyeCare Associates in Hoover, Alabama since 1996 and became increasingly involved with the Southern Council for Optometrists in the mid-2000’s, serving as an Alabama Trustee. Dr. Hammonds has been on the Alabama Board of Scholarships and Awards since 1996 and been Chair of the Optometry Cares Foundation, Scholarship/Endowment Committee since 2012.

Other newly installed officers include: Emilio Balius, OD, President-Elect; J. Max Ernst, OD, Vice President; Max Raynor, OD Treasurer; Richard Durocher, OD, Secretary; and Ted McElroy, OD, Immediate Past President.

“I’m honored to serve SECO International in this capacity and continue the important, excellent work Dr. McElroy began,” says Hammonds. “SECO 2017 is an excellent event, full of inspiring education sessions, cutting-edge products and technology and fun-filled networking events.”

Each spring, more than 6,000 optometrists and ophthalmic professionals from around the globe gather at SECO’s flagship meeting to learn about the latest research, innovations and techniques in the profession.

SECO 2017 features 100 world-class speakers presenting more than 200 continuing education courses for optometrists and ophthalmic professionals, including five special sessions, 37 hands-on learning labs and the new MedPRO360 program. In addition, attendees are able to view the latest products and technologies in the expansive exhibit hall and partake in 50 social and affiliate events.

The annual SECO meeting is produced by SECO International, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Southern Council of Optometrists, Inc. A non-profit association founded in 1923, SECO boasts an approximate membership globally of 25,000. The annual SECO Congress regularly attracts more than 6,000 national and international eye care professionals, vendors, and allied ophthalmic personnel.
