Quick Take: The Finnish fashion and design house, Marimekko will be launching a new eyewear collection with Mondottica.
Wearer: Founded in 1951, Marimekko’s use of bold colors and unconventional prints gave the company a strong and unique identity. According to Mondottica, Marimekko’s courageous, positive and empowering way of life has been translated into the eyewear collection through classic prints and unique colors that celebrate the company’s art of print making. Inspired by nature, the collection also features a brushed wood effect finishing.
Specifics: The first optical products, conceived and developed by Mondottica in collaboration with the Marimekko design team, will hit the Finnish market this August, with the entire collection launching globally at the end of 2015.
Selling Points: With headquarters in Hong Kong and offices all over the globe, Mondottica works with different brands to transform their design heritage to unique eyewear. Mondottica has contributed this vast expertise to the Marimekko collection by incorporating unique materials and techniques with carefully crafted details. From shiny and brush finishes of handmade acetates and stainless steel metals, each product has been designed by Mondottica to epitomize Marimekko’s joy of life, the company said.

Quick Take: The McGee Group has expanded the Totally Rimless collection with new optical styles that combine a minimalist look and feel with a mix of shapes, colors and sizes to fit every style.

Selling Points: According to the company, the model TR-231 and TR-235 are perfect for men who appreciate good design, craftsmanship, superior technology and a light, comfortable fit. The TR-231 features a lightweight stainless steel frame with an angular rectangle eye shape. Slim two-toned temples are accented with acetate temple tips and adjustable nose pads for added comfort. The TR-235 is a full titanium frame that is as comfortable, as it is stylish, the company said. Barrel hinges add interest to a split temple with an acetate temple tip.

Safilo Debuts Carrera Junior Collection

Quick Take: Carrera Eyewear by Safilo has introduced the Carrera Junior collection of sunglasses and optical frames for children between 6 and 12 years old. Available for the first time in the U.S., the Carrera Junior sunglasses are available in trendy materials, colors and mirrored lenses that appeal to kids and pre-teens, the company said.
Specifics: Four sunglasses and four optical frames for boys and girls.
Selling Points: In sun, the Carrerino 10 is a wayfarer acetate frame that pairs a transparent front with solid colored temples for both girls and boys. Sporting a pilot unisex shape and shaded lenses, Carrerino 11 features a stainless steel front and metal temples accentuated with raised temple tips in contrasting colors. For girls, the Carrerino 12 retro tortoise frame has a rounded shape with mirror lenses, while the polyamide injection front and temples contrast in color. Likewise the Carrerino 13 is made of polyamide injection and features a mirrored finish; however its square shape makes for a bold, masculine frame. In optical, the Carrerino 50 for girls and the Carrerino 51 for boys showcase a square shape in a full acetate frame. With a geometric shape and contrasting colored temples, the feminine Carrerino 52 is a full acetate frame, while the masculine Carrerino has a stainless steel front paired with acetate temples. The Carrera Junior collection also offers numerous lens and frame colors for each style.

Altair has introduced two new Sunlites styles each for men and women that pair versatility and durability with stylish shapes and subtle color blocking. For men, the SL4013 is a classic and wearable rectangle with two-tone color plating and tonal enamel fill on temples; while the SL4014 is a handmade acetate in a rounded rectangle with a trendy deep B measurement. For women, the SL5011 features an uplifting rectangle shape in acetate colorblock and the SL5012 is a modified rectangle in handmade acetate in wearable colorations accented with crystals on the front.
