Modo Revamps Derek Lam 10 Crosby Eyewear

Quick Take: Modo and Derek Lam have expanded their relationship by re-launching the Derek Lam 10 Crosby brand. The new collection extends the 10 Crosby eyewear line that launched in 2011 with an advanced contemporary collection of new optical and sun styles.
Wearer: While maintaining the brand’s integrity of design, the 10 Crosby collection juxtaposes classic shapes with playful design elements in metal, acetate and combination frames.
Specifics: The collection comprises 12 optical styles and eight sun styles with women’s, men’s and unisex models available.
Selling Points: The name of each sunglass is inspired by a popular vacation destination. Highlights include oversized sunglasses in rounds, pantos and hexagons, with gradient lenses in shades of grey, plum and brown. According to the company, the Cassis (pictured here) and Sevilla style feature a key-hole bridge alluding to a neo-vintage vibe. With names based off of area codes of U.S. cities, the optical collection includes style 213, a classic semi-rim metal frame for men and style 323 (pictured here), a cat eye frame in upbeat brown and yellow speckle acetate.

Essilor Intros Kolor Up Plano with Mazzucchelli Acetates

Quick Take: Essilor Sun Solution, the Essilor Group division dedicated to non-prescription lenses, is introducing Kolor Up, a new lens collection featuring an exclusive color enhancement technology for improved vision with latest Mazzucchelli acetate material for frames.
Wearer: “Kolor Up will help creative and aspirational brands to fulfill their vision for the brand. Kolor Up will help their consumers to become the brand’s lovers and advocates,” said Christophe Mayet of Essilor Sun Solutions.
Specifics: Kolor Up lenses have been developed with the new Mazzucchelli acetate materials in four specific collections: Rio, Stripy, Monocolors and M49 Tokyo. There are five nuances of acetate for every collection, presented together with five sun lenses in new, on-trend colors.
Selling Points: Kolor Up lenses are created using a proprietary technology which avoids the overlapping of colors and increases the brightness of primary colors recognized by the eyes. The lenses are available in PPG’s CR39 monomer, APX (nylon) as well as NXT and polycarbonate. Essilor said that the collaboration with Mazzucchelli offers sunglass manufacturers and designers a “lens-acetate” package to create eyewear collections which are both fashionable and high quality.

With a flat-metal half eye front construction, the modified rectangle frames of the new I-Squared Series feature a direct soldered flat-metal bridge and flexible TR-90 temple. The Pivotal Force Series is centered on the functionality and design of the hinge mechanism. The rubber coated temple mimics the movement of a lever as it pivots around the axis point and interlocks with the open end-piece construction. With modified rectangular silhouettes, the flat-metal E1053 and E1054 frame offer sophisticated style along with superior durability. According to the company, these frames are light and flexible, yet radically resistant and titanium strong.

Design Gallery, a division of Match Eyewear, has released Maps, a limited edition Vanni collection inspired by urban maps. According to the company, the Vanni Maps collection creates the understated efficiency of an urban network with intertwining brightly colored lines chasing each other like routes on a city plan in acetate. Styles are also available in metal, with a surface that is photo-engraved and scored by a high and low relief network of lines. The collection is offered in three conceptual urban acetate colors: shiny black grey, matte violet red, and matte brown orange. Allison Unveils ill.i Optics A/W ‘15 Collection

Allison has debuted the third collection from Will.i.am’s ill.i Optics collection. The latest offerings of both sun and optical are luxurious in materials and unisex in design, the company said. The optical collection of five unique styles is a more refined approach to previous models with select shapes both thinner and more feminine with rose gold accents. There are also seven new sun styles plus a limited edition leather frame. Overall, the collection strips back gradient lens techniques and focuses on modern color blocking. The color palette has also evolved from predominantly neutral tones by introducing earth gradients, gold and jet black highlights. Electric purple has also been re-introduced as a statement pop.
