LAUNCHES

VSP Launches SunSync Plus, a Fast Acting Photochromic Lens

Quick Take: VSP Optics Group is launching a fast-acting, high performance photochromic lens, SunSync Plus. SunSync Plus changes from dark to clear three times faster than the current industry leader, according to VSP.
Wearer: Those who wear photochromic lenses but are seeking ultra-fast lens tint changes.
Specifics: The lenses have luminous transmittance of 88.5 percent with an AR coating applied, on par with the clearest photochromic lenses available; luminous transmittance is 11 percent when fully activated, making them sunglass dark.
Selling Points: SunSync Plus lenses darken quickly to a “true gray” color when activated by sunlight, and have no residual color. In an un-activated state, their color is similar to clear lenses in the same material, according to VSP. Consistent performance, regardless of thickness or power, is assured by a unique formulation of photochromic molecules applied in a thin layer near the front surface of the lenses. SunSync Plus lenses block 100 percent of UV radiation, selectively filter blue light, and resist scratches and smudging. They are backed by a one-year, 100 percent satisfaction guarantee for VSP Members. They will be available exclusively with Unity Via progressive lenses as of July 12, 2017. “SunSync Plus and Unity Via are two of the most innovative advancements in lens technology, so it’s only fitting that this ultra-fast photochromic be paired with a progressive lens that’s easy to fit and offers effortless vision to the patient,” said Randy Dannewitz, vice president of strategic development for VSP Optics Group. SunSync Plus are available in gray in 1.50 plastic, 1.59 polycarbonate, and 1.67 high index.

Xavier Garcia Releases New Metal Looks From Summer 2017 Collection

More Images
Quick Take: Xavier Garcia has released new metal frames from the Xavier Garcia Summer 2017 Collection, inspired by sculptures.
Specifics: The new models feature styles for women, men and one unisex frame. These frames from the 2017 summer collection “work with steel block and laminated sheets overlaid like layers of skin shows a mastery of materials and techniques, as well as the great artistic abilities of the designer,” the company said.
Selling Points: Volumes and shapes are combined in some frame models with metallized colors such as gold, rose and gunmetal with glossy or matte effects. Other models feature mono-color solids with matte finishes. The frame silhouettes showcase pure, well drawn lines that are very much on trend. The Coco frame is a retro style constructed from a block of worked steel. It is combined with color pigment on its outer layer and features a rounded shape. The Cornelia is a large, angular frame which features pure lines and is offered in a range of sophisticated color combinations. The Leal style is designed in an aviator shape with a slight retro take. It was created from a block of steel and with a reduced thickness on the internal face of the bridge gives it flexibility.
