Briot USA's Alta Zd is Designed for Speed, Precision and Ease of Use
Product: Alta Zd Edger
Top Line: Briot USA is launching its newest edger, the Alta Zd, at Vision Expo East. Designed to process complex jobs with speed, precision and ease, the Alta Zd’s software and capabilities ensure customized and best aesthetic fit for high wrap frames, complex patterns, and customized lens shapes, according to Briot USA.
Close Up: The Alta Zd easily adapts to individual requirements, including a partial processing function and the ability to combine a groove together with a V-Bevel. A small finishing wheel allows for elaborate finishing capability while reducing the use of the drill/mill tool. The combination of a milling tool and small finishing wheel enables a lab tech to create intricate, customized shapes. The multiple tool arm features extraordinary stability and is inclinable for angles between 0 and 30 degrees. The capability to assign individual angles to drill holes makes the mounting of any rimless frame simple without creating tension.
Using Sd (Smart Design) Technology, the Alta Zd captures frame shapes with the pattern recognition system on Briot’s Alta XLd. The contour of the shape is captured regardless of the processing being performed by either the finishing wheel, or the drill bit. The frame, digitized in Bezier Shape Data, can be transferred directly to the Alta Zd. The edger automatically determines which tools to use to customize the desired pattern. After finishing the shape, the small finishing wheel is used to make the entire contour smooth and seamless.
Vital Stats: The Alta Zd delivers consistent and reliable results with accuracy measuring 1/100th of a millimeter.

OptiSource Spray Simplifies Edging Hydrophobic AR Coated Lenses
Product: Super Hydro Edging Spray
Top Line: OptiSource International has developed a non-pad solution for edging lenses that have a hydrophobic AR coating.
Close Up: Spray Super Hydro on the lens and it will instantly air dry. One of OptiSource’s economy-priced blocking pads can then be used for edging the lens. After edging, Super Hydro Spray is easily wiped off.
“Super Hydro Spray takes the slickness of the AR coating out of the ‘edging equation’ by covering it with a simple spray-and-dry solution that is coating-safe and designed to work with our standard edging pads,” says Daryl Squicciarini, president of OptiSource. “Our spray-on technology is the advancement away from specialty blocking pads or lens protection discs, at a fraction of the price. As coatings continue to advance, Super Hydro Spray will be the solution to processing challenges, regardless of lens material, base curve, or edging machinery.”
Haag-Streit USA Offers LED Conversion Kits for Slit Lamps
Product: LED Conversion Kits
Top Line: Haag-Streit USA’s new conversion kits bring LED (light emitting diode) illumination to existing tungsten BM 900 and BQ 900 slit lamps. LED lasts approximately 35,000 hours—150 times longer than a tungsten bulb. The LEDs don’t emit radiation or produce any heat, giving patients a more comfortable exam, according to Haag-Streit.
Close Up: The new LED conversion features a light spectrum that illuminates minute details in the anterior chamber, cornea and lens. The improved view also assists with depth perception, whether it’s evaluating the depth of a foreign object in the eye or analyzing anterior chamber depth.
Retrofitted slit lamps deliver extremely bright and homogenous lighting. The LED conversion includes built-in background illumination for imaging-ready slit lamps and eliminates the need for any additional external light sources or long fiber optics. Controls for both the LED illumination and background illumination are located on the table top.
Vital Stats: Conversion kits are available for Haag-Streit slit lamp models with a single control joystick.
