Satisloh Unveils VFT-orbit2, an Update of its Flagship Generator

Product: VFT-orbit 2
Top Line: Satisloh is unveiling the VFT-orbit 2, the latest version of its high-volume flagship generator, at International Vision Expo this week.
Close Up: “Several innovations make the VFT-orbit 2 incredibly fast. A high performance milling spindle for cribbing and rough surfacing improves speed and throughput up to 20 percent,” said Ian Gregg, vice president, sales operations, “Also the proprietary milling tool interface for the 14-tooth cutter enables 60 percent higher revolution speed and guarantees unsurpassed accuracy and stiffness, reduced run-out and extended tool life.”
The new design not only differs visually from the old one, but also makes service and maintenance easier. It has a round, LED-illuminated working chamber so operators can easily clean and maintain the machine as well as see process steps clearly. A new machine base design offers installation options, with the choice of either left or right drainage, as well as ergonomically better access to utility connections.
Vital Stats: Another design feature that makes the VFT-orbit 2 better than its predecessor is Satisloh’s new proprietary tool holder with an optional integrated cooling system. This allows processing all materials with highest accuracy and lowers tool costs. Improving its robustness is a new V10 B-axis with an electrical plug-in system that makes maintenance easy. A power-save mode automatically turns off air bearings when the machine is idle, resulting in up to 20 percent overall energy savings.

Coburn to Debut Latest Patternless Edger at Expo

Product: Exxpert Lens Edger HPE 810
Top Line: This week at International Vision Expo, Coburn Technologies is debuting its latest finishing product for retail and wholesale lens labs; the HPE-810 patternless edger. The HPE-810 Edger is designed to create a more efficient practice for utilizing better graphics and processing times. Detailed images of bevel/groove positions provide the user with a more accurate look while faster processing signifies the ability to modify the next job while a current job is under way.
“The market will be impressed with HPE-810’s speed as a result of its enhanced horsepower motor and larger wheel. The Chemistries Clip software and integrated drill is ideal for ECPs trying to expand their business yet concerned with space constraints,” commented Wayne Labrecque, Coburn’s vice president of sales.
Close Up:
• Highly Efficient CPU: 1GHz CPU supports next job editing during current job processing.
• Faster Processing: Supports faster edging by 30% and drilling by 40% from the previous model.
• Customized Mini Bevel: Bevel height is customizable for frames with short groove depth and produces lens which fits perfectly in its frame. (Min 0.1-Max 0.8mm)
• Concave Shape Processing: Processes even concave shapes on lenses within a range of wheel curvature.
• Easy Click Editing (for Chemistrie® Clip Features): Chemistrie® clip editing function allows far and near sight glasses, and even sunglasses, to be used on a single frame. The entire process can easily be done with a single click on a user-friendly UI.
• Auto/Manual 3D Simulation: 3D simulation supports easier bevel/groove positioning.
• Auto positioning function reads frame & lens curve automatically & determines the best position of the bevel/groove. Manual positioning allows opticians to manually position bevel/groove for the best result.
Vital Stats:
• Powerful Drill: High power motor makes HPE-810 more powerful and leads to 40 percent reduction in processing time from the previous model (HPE-7000). Easy hole editing management and high power motor creates a great combined effect for rimless glasses.
• Design Your Imagination (optional) with Scan & Cut: As eyeglass designs continue to diversify, the demand for edgers capable of processing these designs are increasing. This function supports these demands without restrictions.
• Tiltable Drill for High Curve Lenses: Range of 0°-30° supports excellent hole processing for all kinds of high curve lenses.
• Bidirectional Feeling-Processing Time Reduction: Bidirectional feelers of the edger’s improved configuration are more durable and simultaneous feeling of front and back sides reduces lens thickness recognition time by a maximum of 50 percent.

Eyenavision Named Exclusive U.S. Distributor for Roger Bacon Eyewear

Product: Roger Bacon Eyewear
Top Line: Eyenavision has been named as the exclusive distributor of Roger Bacon Eyewear in the U.S. Based in the Netherlands, Roger Bacon Eyewear has developed a made to measure 3D printed eyewear collection that is available for sale through independent optical retailers.
“Retailers will be truly amazed at the Roger Bacon Eyewear system,” said Joseph Zewe, CEO of Eyenavision. “Not only is the in store experience unique, but the fit and quality of the frames is exceptional. Roger Bacon represents a whole new category of eyewear and an opportunity for early adopters to differentiate their practice from the competition.”
Close Up: Roger Bacon Eyewear has developed a proprietary system that makes use of a biometric scanner attached to an iPad. The scanning process provides the patient’s precise dimensions that enable Roger Bacon to produce a pair of custom made frames using a 3D printer.
ECPs that provide Roger Bacon Eyewear will receive a scanner and visualization unit which allows the customer to preview any frame in the collection using the patient’s image as shown on the visualization unit’s LCD display. Customers can choose from over 20 frame shapes, each available in 10 colors, with new frame designs to be continuously added to the collection. Individual frame orders are easily placed from the iPad using Roger Bacon’s cloud-based ordering system. The frames are then custom printed and the parts are provided to Eyenavision for final inspection and assembly. The completed frame is provided by Eyenavision to the ECP. Roger Bacon Eyewear providers will receive one on one training on the new exclusive technology so that they may offer their customers a unique in-office experience. As an additional benefit, retailers offering Roger Bacon Eyewear will no longer experience costly frame buy-ins and exchanges of poor selling frames.
Vital Stats: With Roger Bacon, inventory carrying costs are eliminated as each frame is custom made. The ECP only carries frame samples and colors. New frame designs are automatically downloaded to the iPad and visualization unit.
Representatives of Eyenavision and the founders of Roger Bacon, Pieter Jonckheer and Jan-Berend Zweerts, will be demonstrating the Roger Bacon system at Eyenavision’s booth at Vision Expo East. Eyenavision will be accepting pre-orders of the system at Vision Expo and will begin shipping in store display units and accepting frame orders on July 1, 2016.
