DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—Costa Sunglasses, a Luxottica brand, has been awarded the prestigious RELX SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Customer Award for its Untangle our Oceans campaign. Costa is one of four organizations around the world receiving this award for its significant and demonstrable contributions toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Costa said in a statement. The SDG Customer Awards are presented by RELX, a global provider of information and analytics for professional and business customers across industries.

RELX supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in many ways, including by providing universal, sustainable access to information.

The Untangle our Oceans campaign and sunglasses collection focus on bringing light to discarded fishing nets and gear in the ocean, one of the most harmful forms of plastic pollution in our waterways today. In partnership with Bureo, Costa gives discarded fishing nets new life in its Untangled Collection of lifestyle and performance sunglasses, which are made from 97 percent to 100 percent recycled fishing nets.

Costa’s conservation efforts specifically speak to UN SDG Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. In addition, the Costa Protect Report details the brand’s conservation initiatives and the impact of its work.

John Acosta, vice president of marketing at Costa, said, “We are incredibly grateful for this award and our partnership with Bureo. Conservation is in our DNA. From our products, partnerships, and Costa-led programs, we not only live to be on the water but want to protect it for future generations. This is our higher calling and we are more committed than ever to continue in our mission to protect and preserve the waterways that we all call home.”
