ECPs Can Leverage UV Awareness Messages on Social Media This Summer, Via The Vision Council's "Missing Sunglasses" Initiative

NEW YORK—A major initiative on the part of The Vision Council to inform traditional and new media outlets about the harmful effects of UV radiation has taken on the topic via special reports and, in large part, a host of digital and social media vehicles and tools – many of which can and are being leveraged by eyecare professionals around the country.

The association's new UV media report, Finding Your Shades, Protecting Your Vision," has been featured by more than 1,700 national and local news outlets ranging from radio, TV, print and online media, generating more than 260 million media impressions to date, The Vision Council reports.

Why Your Customers Know More About You Than You Think...

By Crosby Noricks, director of social media, Red Door Interactive  for EM+C Daily

Do you ever feel like you're the last one to know about a trend, as if you walked into a conversation halfway through it and don't know what you missed? Yeah, me too. What's more, many businesses are getting that feeling more frequently, often from their own customers.

Here's why: Social media's ability to offer individuals instantaneous communication with others means that companies no longer control their brand. Consumers rely heavily on the experiences and recommendations of friends. They trust what their network has to say – including complete strangers – more than anything a brand could ever say about itself.

One-Quarter of Americans Will Use Mobile Social Networks This Year

NEW YORK—Social networking, aided by the widespread adoption of smartphones in the US, is quickly making the jump to mobile, according to eMarketer estimates.

By the end of this year, nearly 82 million U.S. mobile users will use a social networking site on their phone at least monthly, or more than a quarter of the total U.S population. The vast majority of these users (95.5 percent) will be checking social sites on a smartphone, and smartphone users are about twice as likely as overall mobile phone users to do so this year. By 2014, eMarketer estimates, nearly half of the total U.S. mobile population will be mobile social networkers.
