Stanton Optical Taps eMedia and TV for Donations to Kids Going Back to School

By dba staff

In Jacob's Shoes and Stanton Optical are collecting shoes for south Florida's more than 40,000 schoolchildren living at or below the poverty level.

PALM SPRINGS, Fla.—While some students are gearing up during this Back-to-School shopping season with clothes, supplies, eyewear, and more, some can't even afford shoes.

Stanton Optical is partnering with WPTV News Channel 5 and The Jacob S. Zweig Foundation in a community partnership known as "Operation Sneaks for School" to collect donations of new and gently used children's shoes across southeast Florida during the month of August. The shoes will be given to the more than 40,000, or one in five schoolchildren in the Palm Beach County School District who live in families that are at or below the poverty level.

With a local news anchor as the official spokesperson for the program, Stanton, WPTV, and the "In Jacob's Shoes" charity are employing both eMedia as well as traditional media to get the word out that donations are needed. "We will be reaching our community online, on air and through social media to get our viewers to donate shoes for children," said Cristina Otero, integrated account executive for WPTV-TV.

Stanton Optical is an advertiser with WPTV for the event and is making a corporate sponsorship donation to buy shoes for schoolchildren in Palm Beach County. In Jacob's Shoes donation bins are being located at Stanton Optical's south Florida stores, including those in Boca Raton, Palm Springs, Jupiter and Stuart.

Headquartered here, Stanton Optical is on track to have 47 locations throughout the United States by the end of this year, according to Customized Design Combined With Empowering Employees Make Stanton a Success in the May 1, 2013, edition of dba: Doing Business in Optical's Local Markets. The optical chain encourages its employees to get involved in the local community. Recent corporate giving efforts included monetary and product donations to New Eyes for the Needy, Lions Club Recycle for Sight, Valley Center for the Blind and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
