NEW YORK—The Lotus Club was the backdrop for a reception in honor of Lighthouse Guild's former chief of low vision services, Dr. Bruce P. Rosenthal. Sixty guests gathered to toast his profound impact on the field of low vision and the lives of many individuals under his care. In more than five decades of practice, Dr. Rosenthal has been the model clinician and teacher, according to the group, and has provided the highest level of optometric care to his patients, taught and mentored hundreds of practitioners, and pushed the field forward with research and innovation.

James Dubin, Lighthouse Guild board chairman and president and CEO Dr. Calvin Roberts shared the rich history of Dr. Rosenthal’s transformative career noting his pivotal role in the organization. After a brief video with testimonies from patients and colleagues, Dr. Rosenthal thanked his friends and colleagues and talked about the next phase in his career.

 
 
The program ended with a special announcement about the Dr. Bruce Rosenthal Chair in Low Vision Services in honor of Dr. Rosenthal and to ensure that future generations receive the exceptional care that he provided, according to the group. Funds will be raised to create a restricted endowment to sustain this vital position and carry forward Dr. Rosenthal’s legacy in perpetuity.
