NEW YORK—Gross revenue declined slightly last week (Aug. 16-22) along with the four other optical sales categories, all of which declined at a rate of -2 index points. This leaves the national average for gross revenue at ECP locations at this point (Week 34) in 2021 only 1 index point below where it was at this same time in 2019 and 6 index points below where it was last year at this time, according to Jobson’s most recent Practice Performance Tracker.

All optical sales categories decreased last week when compared with the previous week (Aug. 9-15). Declines across the board were at a rate of -2 index points.

With  across-the-board declines of -2 index points last week, all optical sales categories move together in relation to an average week in 2019 (the index baseline assigned a value of 100 for this Optical Business Tracker). That leaves gross revenue slightly above an average week in 2019 and the other four categories slightly below.

Jobson Optical Research selected 1,500 optical locations that have been operating and reporting their sales to its partners, GPN and ABB Analytics, since 2019. The index has been rebased to an average week in 2019. Going forward, this new index base will be used as an arbitrary benchmark and assigned a value of 100.
