NEW YORK—The national average for gross revenue at ECP locations decreased last week, Feb. 28-March 6, at a rate of -5 index points. That places gross revenue at a level -2 index points below where it was at this point in time (Week 10) last year. However, 2022 gross revenue is above where it was for Week 10 during 2020 (5 index points) and during 2019 (11 index points), according to Jobson’s most recent Practice Performance Tracker.

All optical sales categories decreased last week, except contact lenses, at rates ranging from -5 index points for gross revenue to -7 index points for frame units. The contact lenses category was the only one to experience increased sales at a rate of 3 index points.

Although all optical sales, except contact lenses, decreased last week, all categories remain equal to or above an average week in 2019—the index baseline assigned a value of 100 for this Optical Business Tracker. Categories range from 100, equal to an average week in 2019, for exams/refractions to 116, 16 points above an average week in 2019, for gross revenue.

Jobson Optical Research selected 1,500 optical locations that have been operating and reporting their sales to its partners, GPN and ABB Analytics, since 2019. The index has been rebased to an average week in 2019. Going forward, this new index base will be used as an arbitrary benchmark and assigned a value of 100.
