NEW YORK—The national average for gross revenue at ECP locations increased last week, Feb. 21-27, at a rate of 8 index points. That places gross revenue at a level above where it was at this same point in time (Week 9) during all three years prior, 4 points above last year, 10 points above 2020, and 17 points above 2019, according to Jobson’s most recent Practice Performance Tracker. All optical sales categories increased last week, ranging from 4 index points for contact lenses to 10 index points for frame units and lens pairs. The other two categories, gross revenue and exams/refractions, increased by 8 index points each.

With all optical sales increasing last week, only one category, contact lenses, is below an average week in 2019—the index baseline assigned a value of 100 for this Optical Business Tracker. The other categories range from 7 index points above that benchmark for exams/refractions to 20 points above for gross revenue.

Jobson Optical Research selected 1,500 optical locations that have been operating and reporting their sales to its partners, GPN and ABB Analytics, since 2019. The index has been rebased to an average week in 2019. Going forward, this new index base will be used as an arbitrary benchmark and assigned a value of 100.
