Dr. Carla Mack

GENEVA, Switzerland—Alcon (SIX/NYSE:ALC) has named Dr. Carla Mack its global head, professional affairs, according to an announcement this week. In her new role, Dr. Mack leads professional affairs within Alcon’s global vision care franchise and reports to Andy Pawson, president and general manager, global vision care franchise. As global head, Dr. Mack is responsible for coordinating and consolidating the company’s vision care professional affairs strategy and initiatives, working in partnership with regional professional leaders and teams within the global franchise.

In her previous role as head, professional strategy and development, U.S. Vision Care, Dr. Mack was responsible for all U.S. Vision Care professional training and education through the Alcon Experience Academy, overseeing the training of thousands of eyecare professionals via the Alcon Experience Center.

“As we embark on a comprehensive innovation agenda in Contact Lenses and Ocular Health, it is crucial that we have the voice of the OD and eyecare professional represented within the Global Vision Care Franchise Leadership team,” said Pawson. “Carla’s unique experience will bring strong leadership and support to our professional affairs teams across the Franchise, allowing us to better connect our innovation and portfolio of Vision Care products to the needs of the customers we serve.”

Prior to joining Alcon in 2014, Dr. Mack held roles in global medical affairs and global professional marketing at Bausch + Lomb, was a professor at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Optometry, and was clinic director of the OSU Campus Optometry Services. While at OSU, she examined thousands of patients and taught courses in glaucoma management, specialty contact lenses and practice management. She also served as the chief editor of Contact Lens Spectrum and the Contact Lenses Today e-newsletter.

Dr. Mack completed a hospital-based disease residency and earned both her Doctor of Optometry and her Master of Business Administration degrees from The Ohio State University. She is a Diplomate in the American Academy of Optometry Section on Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies.
