NEW YORK—As parts of the Carolinas braced for more flooding this weekend following the heavy rains dumped on the states by Hurricane Florence, residents and businesses across the two states, as well as other areas of the Southeast, began returning to their homes and businesses Wednesday as they began to assess the damage and work on recovery. Still, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division warned on Wednesday in a news release that “rivers are still rising and will continue to rise for a majority of the week,” yet many in the optical retailing business were taking steps to reopen their offices or, for those companies far away from the storm’s path, to offer assistance to those businesses and patients who were impacted.

VMAIL, which reported on many of the businesses affected by Florence on Tuesday, has updated its reporting with details from EyeCare Partners, which operates 35 offices in North Carolina, and an assistance offer from Cincinnati-based Super Optical to replace lenses at no charge.
