GRESHAM, Ore.—Sterling Vision of Eugene, Ore., announced earlier this month that it has acquired Cascade Vision Center, which is based here, and will add the single-location practice to its growing network across Oregon. This transaction follows Sterling Vision’s announcement earlier in October that it had partnered with Lifetime Eye Care and The Vision Performance Center, also operating in Oregon, effective Oct. 1, as VMAIL reported. The value of the transactions were not disclosed in the announcements.

Sterling Vision does not have any outside investors, and the company is owned and operated by doctors, Jonathan C. Fornaci, chief operating officer of Provectus Management/Sterling Vision, told VMAIL on Monday. Sterling Vision purchased the practices in a cash/equity combination, he said.

At this time, Sterling Vision operates nine offices/locations, with plans to add two additional locations “by early November for a total of 11 locations,” Fornaci said. He also noted that one additional transaction has been signed and that practice will become part of Sterling Vision by the end of the year, which will raise the location total in the group to 12.

Six of Sterling’s acquisitions have come in 2020, Fornaci said. In addition, Sterling has added additional MDs and ODs at its locations, and expanded its practice from ophthalmology, retina and optometry to include vision therapy, ortho k/specialty, dermatology, anti-aging, and neurology/neuro ophthalmology.

“Sterling Vision will continue to identify great practices throughout Oregon and acquire them in 2021, along with opening new clinics,” Fornaci said in his message to VMAIL.

The most recent transaction with Cascade Vision Center was the office of Dr. Mel MacPhee, who will retire Nov.15, 2020, the announcement noted.

"I have selected Sterling Vision to assume my practice effective Oct. 15, 2020, because I want to be sure that my patients continue to receive the best possible care," MacPhee said in the announcement. "The merge of Cascade Vision Center with Sterling Vision will ensure that my patients continue to have access to industry leading eyecare."

Added Albert Edwards, MD, PhD, one of the founding physicians of Sterling Vision, "We are tremendously excited to welcome the staff at Cascade Vision Center to the Sterling Vision team. Adding Cascade Vision to the Sterling Vision network allows us to offer our services to the Portland metropolitan area."

Dr. Ben Jager, OD, is joining Sterling Vision and will be practicing at Cascade Vision Center starting Nov. 1. He specializes in comprehensive eye exams for children and adults, contact lens fittings, and diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases.

"I believe providing truly comprehensive eyecare is a collaborative effort," Dr. Jager said. "Sterling Vision's patient-centered approach exemplifies this philosophy, and I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of the expansion to Gresham. The merger of Cascade Vision Center with Sterling Vision will ensure that our patients continue to receive the highest quality service and expanded care options."
