SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif.— Essilor announced yesterday that it has acquired iCoat, an independent prescription laboratory based here that specializes in the development and licensed sale of thin-film deposit and coating technologies for premium optical equipment. The announcement was issued as part of Essilor’s first quarter 2014 financial results.

iCoat generates around $26 million in annual revenue, primarily through optical chains and eyecare insurance companies in North America, according to Essilor. The lab’s current management team, including its founder Arman Bernardi, PhD, who serves as president and CEO, remains in place.

iCoat is known for its extensive research and development capabilities which have produced proprietary products such as Stainless AR, a superoleophobic, anti-reflective coating.
