Rex Adams
ATLANTA—EyeSouth Partners, a network of integrated eyecare practices located throughout Georgia and the Southeast, has named Rex Adams as chief executive officer, according to an announcement this week. He assumed his new role at the beginning of the year, according to a spokesman. EyeSouth was formed by Shore Capital Partners, a lower middle-market health care private equity firm. Adams will work closely with the senior leadership team and physician partners to provide strategic guidance and operating expertise to the company’s practice network in support of “a patient-first culture, while also pursuing organic growth and affiliation opportunities to expand patient access,” according to the announcement.

Most recently, Adams was chief executive officer of Payspan, a provider of health care reimbursement and payment automation utilized by more than 700 health plans and 1 million-plus health care providers. During his tenure at Payspan, Adams was named a 2017 CEO Award winner by CEO Today magazine as well as a 2017 CEO Award recipient by Finance Monthly, according to the announcement.

Scott Bullock continues in his role as president of EyeSouth’s Anterior Division while Paul Lucas remains president of the Posterior Division, according to this week’s announcement.

Gino Gabianelli, EyeSouth’s chief medical officer, said the health care provider is “committed to supporting our physicians with additional leadership and operational expertise” as it continues to grow and add new patients. “Rex shares our vision for providing the highest quality clinical care and advancing our medical mission as we expand our affiliate network, and his leadership experience and cultural fit are a great match for our best-in-class clinical team,” Gabianelli said in the statement.

Adams said he is “thrilled and honored to join such a patient-focused, high-quality care organization as EyeSouth.” He added, “I am excited to work with the EyeSouth team and our affiliated practices to deliver the highest quality medical and surgical eyecare and a superb patient experience while also strengthening relationships with our clinical partners in the eyecare community.”

Earlier in his career, Adams served as the chief operating officer of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA), the largest pediatric hospital system in the U.S., according to this week’s announcement. CHOA earned distinction as one of Fortune’s Top 100 Places to Work and was designated as a U.S. News and World Report’s Top Hospital in 10 specialties during Adams’ time at the hospital system.

In 2017, EyeSouth added Jason Shafer as chief financial officer and Charlie Shreve as vice president of business development and strategy. EyeSouth’s affiliate network consists of 30 doctors providing medical and surgical eyecare services at 20 locations throughout Georgia, including Georgia Eye Partners, Georgia Ophthalmology Associates, Georgia Retina and Opal Aesthetics.
