CALGARY, Alberta—FYidoctors, an optometrist-controlled eyecare company, announced the addition of a two-location practice in the province of Manitoba. The offices are located in the cities of Winkler and Winnipeg, and the practice was founded in Winnipeg in 1920 by Harry S. Nowlan. Dr. Herbert Moore joined the clinic in 1949, forming Nowlan & Moore Optometric. The practice opened a second location in Winkler in 1954, and welcomed current president and owner, Dr. Ross F. Moore, in 1980. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

With the addition of the Nowlan & Moore practice, FYidoctors now has a total of five clinics in the province of Manitoba.

Dr. Moore holds a BSc from the University of Manitoba, in addition to his doctor of optometry from the University of Waterloo. The practice has served the community for over a century, and is known for its friendly, caring, and knowledgeable staff and its specializations in vision therapy, eye muscle imbalance and computer vision syndrome.

“We’re pleased to welcome Nowlan & Moore Optometric to the FYidoctors’ banner and to begin working with Dr. Moore and his team,” Dr. Alan Ulsifer, FYidoctors’ chairman and chief executive officer, said in the announcement. “FYidoctors’ focus is to enhance the lives of patients through vision care and for over 100 years Nowlan and Moore Optometric has been doing just that. We look forward to seeing this partnership flourish.”

In addition to the new partnership with FYidoctors, Nowlan and Moore Optometric announced that it will move some of its operations into the Grimard Optique Winnipeg location, a subsidiary of FYidoctors. The company’s plan is to merge the two Winnipeg locations and operate a newly created Grimard Optique | Nowlan & Moore Optometric, Partners of FYidoctors banner.

Separately last week, FYidoctors announced that the strategic minority equity investment received from L Catterton  in March 2020 has been named as “Americas Private Equity Deal of the Year” by the Global M&A Network. VMAIL reported on the PE’s firm’s investment in FYidoctors here.

The M&A Atlas Awards, administered by the Global M&A Network, recognizes the achievements of successful dealmakers, outstanding firms and the best-growth delivering transactions.

“We are honored to be named Americas Private Equity Firm of the Year,” said Michael Chu, global co-chief executive of L Catterton. “We were considered alongside a distinguished group of firms and this award is a testament to our differentiated strategy and collaborative approach.”
