CHICAGO—Kemper Corporation (NYSE: KMPR) announced that Erich Sternberg has joined the company as president of its Life and Health Division. Kemper is one of the nation’s leading specialized insurers. Sternberg will be based in Chicago and report to Joseph P. Lacher, Jr., Kemper’s president and chief executive officer. The executives that lead the Kemper Life and Kemper Health brands will report to Sternberg. “Erich’s extensive leadership experience in the industry, his deep understanding of the life and health business, and years of effective execution on relevant business strategy will be a tremendous asset to our company,” said Lacher.

“As we continue to focus on long-term growth for our life and health brands, we look forward to Erich’s contributions to bring the division to its potential,” Lacher said.

Sternberg was most recently president and chief executive officer of Starmount Life Insurance Company and Starmount Managed Dental of California, subsidiaries of Unum Group. His responsibilities have included dental and vision product development, operations, pricing, distribution, provider networks, growth strategy, and business development.

His oversight led the company through 21 years of double-digit growth. In 2016, Erich oversaw the sale of Starmount to Unum Group and led the integration of the business within Unum, as well as the acquisition of the California subsidiary in the ensuing years. Prior to Starmount, he held marketing and sales roles at Clinique International, an Estee Lauder Company, in New York and Australia.
