VIENNA, Va.—MyEyeDr. (MED) has announced this month that it has formed The MyEyeDr. OneFamily Community Fund. This charitable 501(3)(c) organization is an expansion of the initial work done through the company’s OneFamily Fund that was established last year to help their associates through the economic challenges of 2020. The Fund’s expanded mission is twofold: to provide care, assistance, and support to associates and others in need by administering a financial hardship and disaster relief program, and to sponsor and support charitable work and outreach opportunities in the communities where MyEyeDr. and its affiliates’ patients and associates live and work.

Last April, in response to the worsening pandemic, CEO Sue Downes established the initial entity with a personal contribution of $50,000. Her contribution was combined with personal financial donations from many associates and MED partners and was used to assist MyEyeDr. associates who were financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as VMAIL reported. The MED OneFamily Fund grew to over $110,000 and was able to help over 600 families through the generosity of the program, the company said.

“Our team members deserve all of the credit for the new charitable foundation,” said Downes. “It is their passion to help others that is the driving force behind growing this initiative.”

Joe Sherrier, the company’s vice president of culture and communications, added, “We know that this is only the beginning of exploring new ways that we can impact our communities and give back. One of our core values is to Serve As One, and through The MyEyeDr. OneFamily Community Fund and its charitable works, we know we will be living this value daily with purpose and with pride.”
