NEW YORK—A second part of the webinar series on Race in Optometry "Seeking Solutions: An Honest Conversation on Optometric Education" has been set to take place on July 29, from 7:00 p.m. ET to 9:00 p.m. ET, an event organized by the SUNY College of Optometry. The discussion will focus on diversity, inclusion, and mentorship, which help lead the way to career pathways. The July 29 panel participants include:
• Dr. John Flanagan - Dean and Professor, School of Optometry, University of California Berkeley
• Dr. Joy Harewood - Attending Optometrist, Bronxcare Health System|Adjunct Professor, SUNY College of Optometry
• Dr. David Heath - President, State University of New York College of Optometry
• Dr. Edwin Marshall - Professor Emeritus of Optometry and Public Health|Past Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs, Indiana University
• Dr. Sherrol Reynolds - President, National Optometric Association (NOA) | Chief, Advanced Ophthalmic Care, NSU College of Optometry
• Dr. Ruth Shoge - Assistant Professor, Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University
The discussion will also be streamed on Facebook Live that evening.

SUNY Optometry hosted its first virtual webinar on the topic of diversity and inclusion in the profession of optometry earlier this month on July 1, as VMAIL reported. A recording of that session is posted on the SUNY Opt site here. The college also just announced that it had formed an advisory task force to advance race and equity.
