NEW YORK—Smart Vision Labs has appointed Wallace Lovejoy to its board of directors. Lovejoy brings to the board 33 years of leadership in the optical industry.

“Wally brings deep knowledge and operating experience of the optical industry to our board,” said Yaopeng Zhou, co-founder and CEO of Smart Vision Labs. “I am super excited to work with Wally to bring our cutting edge refraction technology to more people through the optical retail world.”

Lovejoy spent 28 years on the leadership team at Luxottica. From 2008 to 2011, he served as senior vice president of eyecare development at Luxottica Retail North America (LRNA). In this role, he oversaw the support for the optometrists and opticians affiliated in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico with LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, Sears Optical, Target Optical and Eyexam of California, a licensed vision health care service plan.

Prior to that, Lovejoy served as LRNA’s senior vice president of eyecare operations, contracting and facilitating enhanced practice management by affiliated optometrists from 2006 to 2008. In that position, he also oversaw field management for more than 2,000 optometric offices, including the implementation of a centralized, real time online appointment process for those offices.

Additionally, Lovejoy served as the chairman of the board of the National Association of Optometrists and Opticians from 2004 to 2010. He is also the past chair of the Board of the Foundation for Eye Health Awareness and of Eyexam of California as well as a past member of the American Optometric Association Ophthalmic Council and the OneSight Foundation https://onesight.org board of directors.

Since 2012, Lovejoy has been an independent eyecare consultant at Lovejoy Eye Care Consulting, where he provides strategic consulting and regulatory compliance advice related to vision care and the optical and ophthalmic industries.
