Maynard McAlpin.

BALTIMORE—Versant Health, a national managed eye health and vision plan company, has named Maynard McAlpin as its new chief operating officer. In this role, McAlpin will manage all operations and information technology for Versant Health and he will lead a newly unified group to advance business performance as well as continuously improve customer satisfaction and retention, according to a Versant Health announcement late last week. McAlpin joins Versant Health from HM Health Solutions, a Highmark subsidiary, where he was vice president, delivery services and implementation.

He also served as president and chief executive officer at Mokxa Technologies and Charted Health Plan. A U.S. Navy veteran with more than 10 years of service, McAlpin also worked at Aetna, where he was managing director, enterprise strategic planning, and at CareFirst, where he held a variety of executive positions.

“Maynard has held a variety of executive leadership roles that directly relate to our business, and has a long history of achievement in his career," Versant Health chief executive officer Kirk Rothrock said in the announcement. "He is a strong and passionate leader and I look forward to his contribution to Versant Health's vision of becoming the most trusted managed eye health and vision plan for members, clients, brokers and providers in the industry."

Versant Health was formed in late 2017 as part of a deal that combined the former Superior Vision and Davis Vision, as VMAIL reported. The company is one of the nation's leading managed vision care companies and serves more than 33 million members nationwide.
