Product: New Eyes for the Needy website
Top Line: New Eyes for the Needy, a Short Hills, N.J.-based nonprofit dedicated to providing eyeglasses to families, children and individuals in need, has redesigned its website at https://new-eyes.org/, to reflect the nonprofit’s commitment to its 88-year-old eyeglass program serving individuals in need, across the U.S.
Close Up: This past fall, New Eyes permanently closed their Overseas Used Eyeglass Program, given decreased demand. However, New Eyes will continue to assist their overseas mission partners, by providing new frames, readers and sunglasses that they receive from optical manufacturers and distributors.
“The goal of our new website design is to make it easier for individuals to find the information that they need to support and donate to New Eyes, and provide more visibility into our U.S. Eyeglass Program that’s been in operation for decades,” said Jean Gajano, executive director, New Eyes for the Needy.
The redesign process began earlier this year, as COVID-19 sped up plans for New Eyes to rethink their website to meet the needs of eyeglass applicants in the U.S., and to make potential donors and corporate partners more aware of the breadth and depth of the U.S. program and transparency around who the nonprofit serves. More than 10 million people in the U.S. lack the means necessary to purchase a pair of eyeglasses.
Vital Stats: The newly revamped website includes an updated media kit with a photo gallery of individuals in the U.S. who have received eyeglasses from New Eyes, and letters from people who have received eyeglasses featured on the New Eyes’ home page.
Moreover, the website gives eyeglass applicants who have been impacted by COVID-19, a way to apply for eyeglasses directly, without the need of a social services agency applying on their behalf.
“Given the devastating economic impact of coronavirus in the U.S., we are committed to providing the most vulnerable amongst us an easy and efficient way to obtain eyeglasses,” said Gajano. “We’ve extended the validity of an eye prescription from 12 to 24 months, to accommodate as many people as possible. These are individuals who need clear vision to find a new job once the economy stabilizes, and for children to have a better remote learning or in-classroom experience.”
In addition to making it as easy as possible for individuals to apply for eyeglasses online, the New Eyes website offers a more streamlined layout, where information on the nonprofit’s U.S. eyeglass program is front and center.
