NEW YORK—In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, four members of Transitions Optical’s Diversity Advisory Board  are sharing actionable ways eyecare professionals can foster diversity, equity and inclusion in their lives and careers in a new video, being shared for the first time today, on the national holiday honoring the leader. Viewers can understand the impact of the most visible spokesman and leader in the American Civil Rights Movement from conversations with Dr. Darryl Glover, Defocus Media and MyEyeDr., Dr. Essence Johnson, Black Eyecare Perspective, Dr. Janette Dumas Pepper, Southern College of Optometry and Dr. Devin Sasser, Eye Clarity. The Transitions Diversity Advisory Board members also share their dreams for the optical industry and world and how eyecare professionals can honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s principle of equality.

Originally formed in 2010, the 2021-2022 11-member Transitions Diversity Advisory Board represents expertise in the largest and fastest-growing minority demographic groups in the U.S. Board members work closely with Transitions Optical on new programs that will help to improve Black and Hispanic representation in optometry, ophthalmology and opticianry, and to identify new programs and tools to support eyecare professionals in their own efforts to provide the best level of care for diverse patients.

Transitions Optical provides its industry partners with the tools and education to better serve and improve communication with their culturally diverse patients. Resources are available free-of-charge to eyecare professionals at TransitioonsPRO.com/Multicultural. Those interested in being involved with the Transitions Diversity Advisory Board can contact cservice@transitions.com for more information.

Both short and long versions of the Transitions Diversity Board's new video will be shared today and this week on Transitions Optical’s PRO Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn platforms.
