Emmanuel Gallina, president of the Silmo Optical Design jury.

PARIS—The organizers of Silmo, which is planned to be held in-person Sept. 22-26, 2022 at Paris-Nord Villepinte, are inviting eyewear creators to "Explore new horizons!" with the 2022 Optical Design Contest, and for them to take part in a "new area of expression to catalyze trends by stimulating and revealing the seeds that will blossom in tomorrow's optical world." Silmo is offering students the opportunity "to demonstrate their skills and highlight their conception of the optical and sunwear sphere while exploring its countless possibilities," according to Silmo's announcement.

A panel comprised of design professionals and interdisciplinary experts will gather in September 2022 to select the winner who will be presented the honor at the Silmo fair. Design, creativity, innovation, product usage and functionality, the integration of a CSR approach, the intrinsic viability of the project, are all aspects of the critical criteria, they said.

For this first edition of the Optical Design Contest, Emmanuel Gallina, a noted design expert, will preside over the jury. A graduate of E N A D and the Polytechnic University of Milan, Gallina is a recognized designer and artistic director. Through his work as a speaker, professor and workshop coordinator, he already strives to share his expertise with the younger generations to encourage their dynamic perception and creativity, Silmo noted.

The winner and his or her school will share a cheque of €10,000, and will have the honor of having their designs exhibited throughout the event. Details for entry to the 2022 Silmo Optical Design Contest are posted here.
