Two Blind Brothers Launch a Viral ‘Trust’ Campaign, Encouraging Visitors to ‘Shop Blind’

The holiday season tends to get tangled with sales and gift-giving rather than giving thanks for what we have that others may not—such as our sight. Two Blind Brothers, a non-profit clothing site, founded by Bradford and Bryan Manning, donates 100 percent of their profits toward research to cure eye disease. The two are generating sales and widening an awareness and fan base recognition this season with their unique and creative take on sharing messages that underscore the experience of visual impairment and blindness while raising money to help 11 million people with vision loss.

What Parents Think About Children’s Vision Correction Needs

More than a third (35.5 percent) of parents reported that their children had never received an eye exam and more than half (58 percent) of the respondents claimed they passed on an exam for their children because they did not need an exam, according to a Vision Council VisionWatch survey, which queried parents about their children’s vision correction needs and behaviors. About 35.5 percent of all parents with children living at home reported that their child(ren) has never received an eye exam. Parents with only one child living at home, and parents with a child under the age of 10 living at home, were more likely than other parents to have never taken any of their children to get their eyes examined.

Shelby Brogdon, OD, Is the New Optometrist on the Block

Shelby Brogdon, OD, graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio, Texas this past May. A native of Benton, Ark., she moved back home after graduation and now practices at Simmons Eye Care and Teague Eye and Vision Clinic in Little Rock. Though she is just starting out as an optometrist, (she has a bachelor’s from Arkansas State University), she has cultivated her Instagram page, Eye Brog Doc, for about a year now and it’s sure to keep growing as she moves forward as an optometrist.
