NEW YORK—This coronavirus situation has left many of us with more than enough time to contemplate the future, especially as it relates to our businesses and professions. What will optical retail look like in 2021? What about eyecare and independent optometry practices? How will the conventional sales call be transformed? What about industry meetings? The one thing that seems certain around all of these questions is that no one really knows right now what the future will look like. It’s going to be a wait-and-see evolution. NEW YORK—ECPs who have reopened their practices report they are seeing fewer patients per day, as they expected, due to social distancing and safety concerned but there are more eyewear-related purchases happening during the week of May 22-26—the latest period surveyed by Jobson Optical Research in the 10th wave of the ECP Coronavirus Survey. The rate of eyecare practice and optical location reopenings increased during the month of May as state and local county guidelines permitted during the coronavirus pandemic.
