NEW YORK—With less than one week until 2022's World Sight Day, Oct. 13, organizations, companies, employees and thousands of eyecare professionals are revving up their efforts to support the global initiative, to help raise funds to underpin programs and awareness building efforts to draw attention to the value of vision and access to quality care and vision correction products to millions of underserved people. Among those, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and its member organizations have been amplifying their messaging and advocacy over the past months to shine an international spotlight on the issue.

Women In Optometry: Long-Awaited Expansion Allows OD to Double Her Space

At the 10-year anniversary celebration of Bella Eye Care in August 2021, Judy Nguyen, OD, recalls guests telling her that they would love it if she opened a second location. While Dr. Nguyen agreed that she could use more space, she didn’t think it would work logistically; she lives 20 miles away from the office and wasn’t looking to add more commuting to her plate. She was, however, open to the option of expansion. When the opportunity arose to add more space to better serve her patients in her existing location just weeks later, Dr. Nguyen decided to move forward. Dr. Nguyen’s neighbor on the other side, a dry cleaner with three locations and a warehouse, decided to close this space.
