Baumvision Launches Mothersbaugh and Baum Collab

More Images
Quick Take: Inspired by his background in music and arts, artist Mark Mothersbaugh has collaborated with founder and CEO of Baumvision, Shane Baum, to launch the new Mothersbaugh and Baum eyewear line. According to the company, the collaboration pairs Mothersbaugh’s style with his personal journey of discovering the arts.
Wearer: According to Baum, the choice of using lightweight metal from an alkaline earth metals group was a conscious decision; while the goal of the collection’s construction was to appeal to those looking for bold shapes that remain lighter in both color and weight. Specifics: The first collection features three Beryllium metal-built styles in both sunglass and Rx lens options.
Selling Points: In the Mothersbaugh and Baum collection, styles include the Akronite, Mutato and Francesca. Akronite is a bold, rectangular frame. Being a native of Ohio, Mothersbaugh named the style as a “twist on the city of Akron, Ohio,” according to Baumvision. The second style, Mutato, also the name of Motherbaugh’s production company ,derived from the combination of “mutant” and “potato,” is a more bookish, scholarly looking frame. The third frame, Francesca, named after the designers’ dog, is an oversized rounded unisex style.

Maui Jim Unveils First Luxury Sunglass Styles

More Images
Quick Take: Maui Jim has released its first ultra-luxury sunglass collection, called You Move Me, which features colorful interpretations of Hawaiian flora and fauna brought to life by internationally renowned Hawaiian artist, Charlie Lyon.
Specifics: The collection includes two Crystal/Silk frame shapes – a rounded, oversized frame (Style #280) and a squared-off, slightly retro frame (Style #277), where Lyon’s work was transferred to Italian silk and handcrafted into the sunglasses. Only 270 pairs of style #280 and 290 pairs of style #277 have been made. Additionally, Maui Jim is also producing printed acetate frames of the Lyon painting in three distinctive color variations. The printed styles come in Silk Print with White Trim & Teal Interior (style #GS280-51), Navy with White Trim and Silk Print Interior (style #RS280-52) and Black with White Trim and Silk Print Interior (style #277-53). Only 500 pairs of each printed acetate style will be manufactured and each pair is stamped with a signature and numbered. Maui Jim’s MauiPure lenses can be found in every frame in the collection.
Selling Points: Artwork for the collection is based on a vivid painting by Lyon that is evocative of the Maui Jim lifestyle. No two Crystal/Silk frames are the same and each is a numbered, limited-edition frame. The sunglasses pair the artwork with Maui Jim PolarizedPlus2 lenses. “At Maui Jim, we work to create an experience,” said Richard Walker, Maui Jim’s director of product development. “This collection harnesses the beauty of Hawaii in a collectible piece of wearable art that captures the spirit of the islands.” Each pair of You Move Me sunglasses comes with a custom case and cleaning cloth. They are also available with MauiPassport prescription lenses in ranges from +3.00 to -6.50.
