New System Lets Patients Self-Monitor Retinal Disease

Product:
myVisionTrack
Top Line: Vital Art and Science, a Richardson, Texas-based start-up, has developed myVisionTrack, an accurate, portable, and user-friendly system that enables patients with retinal diseases to quickly and efficiently monitor their own vision function at home. By using proprietary VAS software and a shape discrimination test implemented on a handheld electronic platform, myVisionTrack allows patients with degenerative eye disease such as diabetic retinopathy (DR) and Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) to quickly and accurately test their own visual function at home.
Close Up: Patients can self-monitor their condition at home. Results of the test are stored, automatically compared with prior test results, and may be sent to a physician’s office or central service if a statistically significant change has occurred. Patients can now have peace of mind and take more responsibility in monitoring and managing their disease.
Vital Stats: VAS is currently in the process of validating an 80 patient-12 month DR/DME Clinical Trial with an enhanced version of the mVT with the Phase II SBIR Grant with NIH/NEI. myVisionTrack’s initial usage would be for clinical drug trials and small pilot deployments and thus it will not be commercially available until the 4th quarter of 2013.
