EyePrintPro Expands U.S. and Canadian Provider Network

More Images
Product: EyePrintPro
Top Line: EyePrint Prosthetics announced that eyecare providers in 36 sites across the U.S. and Canada are now certified to fit the EyePrintPro. The EyePrintPro is a prosthetic scleral cover shell that improves vision by creating a new, smooth, refractive surface for the eye. It is similar to a scleral lens insofar as it is made of the same FDA-approved oxygen permeable materials and the fit vaults the cornea while landing on the sclera. However, instead of using a series of standardized curvatures, as with scleral lenses, the EyePrintPro is designed utilizing the patented Elevation Specific Technology proprietary software to exactly match the unique irregularities of each individual eye.
Close Up: Because the EyePrintPro is not constrained to typical fabrication, lenses can be made to match the exact contour of any eye—even in the most difficult conditions where other options have failed. The process begins with an EyePrint Impression, which captures the precise curvatures of the entire ocular surface. Doctors then send the resulting impression to an EyePrint lab for 3D scanning. The scanned data is then fed to a numerically controlled machining system to produce a lens that matches the impression exactly and therefore fits the individual cornea and sclera perfectly. Because of the precise nature of the back surface fit, high quality and individualized optics can be placed on the front surface of the device.
“The EyePrint is like a fingerprint—it’s completely individual,” said EyePrint developer Christine Sindt, MD, clinical associate professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences at University of Iowa. Dr. Sindt has devoted her career to providing vision for patients with diseased and irregular corneas.
“Hundreds of thousands of people suffer from debilitating corneal disease, unable to enjoy life to its fullest,” added Dr. Sindt. “But now, as we begin to expand EyePrint’s reach here in the United States and Canada, we can offer hope to more people who thought all hope was lost.”
Vital Stats: The EyePrintPro is indicated for keratoconus, irregular astigmatism, ocular surface disease, trauma, extreme cases of deformed eyes, pellucid marginal degeneration, chemical burns, post surgical corneas (including corneal transplants and post LASIK ectasia), pinguecula, pterygium, or simply those who desire better vision and comfort, according to EyePrint. EyePrintPro requires comprehensive training in the EyePrint Process.

RightEye’s Eye-tracking Test Can Identify Reading Disorders

Product: RightEye Reading Test
Top Line: RightEye is launching the RightEye Reading Test, a tool for educators, optometrists and specialists to noninvasively identify reading disorders in students of all ages.
Close Up: The RightEye Reading Test enables practitioners to differentiate eye movement issues from other reading disorders, resulting in earlier and more appropriate intervention for readers. The test offers nearly 100 stories, short and long, and will be available in 12 languages, each marked with a level of difficulty that corresponds to different grade levels for beginning, intermediate and advanced readers. Using these stories, the test identifies and reports metrics compared with norms that are important in assessing oculomotor abilities when reading, including words per minute, fixations, saccades and regressions. The reading stories, norms and associated comprehension questions within the RightEye Reading Test were developed by the Optometric Extension Program Foundation.
“With this test and the associated instant report available to parents, showing precise eye movements and scores relative to norms, school systems, optometrists and specialists can now identify reading disorders, apply an appropriate intervention, and avoid the learning and behavioral challenges often associated with misdiagnosis—all without any of the costly, time-intensive and invasive procedures typically required for diagnosis,” said Barbara Barclay, president of RightEye.
Later this year, RightEye will launch RightEye Maze Master, a gaze interactive game that helps users gain better control over each eye and both eyes by challenging them to pop numbers with just their eyes in a maze formation that becomes narrower and more complex at higher levels. Maze Master works in conjunction with the RightEye Reading Test and can help improve the oculomotor skills deficits that may be impairing a patient’s reading.
Vital Stats: The RightEye Reading Test is available for purchase through the company’s cloud-based platform, which is available to customers with the purchase of a RightEye Complete 3D Eye-Tracking System.
