OrCam Partners With VisionServe Alliance to Promote Artificial Vision Device

More Images
Product: OrCam MyEye
Top Line: OrCam Technologies, which markets an artificial vision device for people who are blind or visually impaired, recently announced a collaboration with VisionServe Alliance (VSA), a consortium of executive directors/CEOs of non-profit agencies that provide specialized services to people who are blind or with severe vision loss, to bring the latest wearable assistive technology to VSA member organizations.
Close Up: The two organizations will promote OrCam MyEye, a wearable assistive technology device, to VSA members that include organizations focusing on national advocacy, service issues, employment and manufacturing, adult vision rehabilitation, early intervention, schools, dog guides, low vision clinics and Braille production.
The OrCam MyEye artificial vision device instantly and discreetly reads printed and digital text aloud, from any surface, and recognizes faces, products and money notes. The wearable device communicates visual information by utilizing a small, intuitive smart camera mounted on the wearer’s eyeglass frame, which connects to a smartphone-sized computer. OrCam MyEye is the only wearable assistive tech that relays audio in real time through an intuitive pointing gesture, without the need of a smartphone or Wi-Fi. OrCam MyEye makes newspapers, books, computer and smartphone screens, restaurant menus, labels on supermarket products and street signs accessible in real time.
Vital Stats: OrCam MyEye is available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Hebrew, with new languages continually added and launching in a growing number of countries. OrCam MyEye is fully funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for veterans in need of the breakthrough assistive technology as well as by many states’ Departments of Rehabilitation/Vocational Services, for qualified residents.

Optical Sidekick App Helps Opticians During Checkout

More Images
Product: Optical Sidekick
Top Line: This point of sale software is designed to assist opticians during the optical checkout process.
Close Up: The application organizes and presents the user's sales preferences much like a cash register would present line items and associated prices. Additionally, the backend administrative settings allows for template customization for any insurance plan including VSP, Eyemed, discount plans and more. These templates take the learning curve out of insurance coverage by prompting employees to appropriately apply specific benefits only when applicable. The app's robotic mascot, Ziggy, is equally as helpful. He can be customized to appear and present sales instructions and tips to novice employees for every step of the sales process, from frame selection to lens' add-ons. Ziggy will record and tabulate the total retail cost and insurance adjusted costs. He even presents eight educational photos to patients highlighting the patient's lens thicknesses, as well as, explaining lens styles, materials, and add-ons. When the sale is complete, users can print, email, and save the receipt to the cloud.
Vital Stats: Optical Sidekick, a native iPad application designed by Whoa Co. LLC, is now available on the Apple app store. A licensed subscription is purchased via an in-app purchase and renews monthly. Initial one-month free trial is available. Monthly subscription costs $34.99 USD and is required to use the application. An additional subscription allowing for use on an unlimited number of devices is available via an in app purchase for an additional, recurring $9.99 USD monthly charge.
