July 20, 2019 will mark the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong's journey into space when he became the first human being to set foot on the moon. The celebration of Armstrong’s historic achievement has already begun, notably with the release of “First Man,” a big budget Hollywood movie starring Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong that recently hit theaters.

The Armstrong movie is the latest in a seeming endless line of moon-inspired movies, plays, books, poems, songs and other creative works. Popular songs alone represent a rich source of material. Toward that end, NASA, with the help of Dr. Steven Williams, has put together a list of 159 popular performances of songs that have moon in the title. Some of the best known and most beloved are Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra, Moon River by Audrey Hepburn and Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven.
