ALEXANDRIA, Va.—The Vision Council is funding an inter-organization summit themed Opticianry: Creating a Plan for the Future in which more than 50 representatives of the opticianry community will meet May 1 to 2 in Fairfax, Va. The summit is designed to bring together interested parties and stakeholders within the opticianry community to create a shared vision for their field and a practical strategic plan and commitment to action.

“Today, opticians play a critical role in dispensing our members’ products to the patient,” said Ed Greene, CEO of The Vision Council. “By hosting this event, we hope to bring many key players in the field together so that they might take meaningful steps to improving the future for opticians everywhere.”

Five individual opticians provided direction for the summit, developing an agenda and setting goals for the meeting while also building an invitation list of more than 50 people who, in large part, are key representatives of various national and state opticianry organizations. Opticians not attending the summit will be able to participate in online surveys that will be distributed beforehand by the opticianry organizations and by various other means. The survey questions will be similar to those used onsite, and the results will be used during the summit.
