TOKYO—Hoya Corporation (7741:Tokyo) has announced consolidated revenue of 196.8 billion yen for the fourth quarter ending March 31, 2024, up 6 percent from year-ago, and down 1 percent on a constant currency basis. Pretax profit rose to 72.1 billion yen, a 34 percent increase versus year-ago, up 27 percent with the constant currency effect. Operating profit slipped 1 percent to 53 billion yen compared to the prior-year period, a decrease of 5 percent in constant currency, according to Hoya.

Hoya said its operations in Japan generated revenue of 44.7 billion yen during the fourth quarter, up 5.5 percent from year-ago. Hoya said that revenue in its Life Care business, including eyeglass lenses, contact lenses and intraocular lenses, grew to 137 billion yen in the fourth quarter, up 10 percent over year-ago. Hoya attributed the growth to a 13 percent increase in revenue from eyeglass lens sales, a 3 percent increase on a constant currency basis. Eyeglass lens sales increased globally due to the launch of new products such as progressive lenses and other high value-added products such as Hi-Vision Meiryo, Hoya said, noting that the growth compensated for a decline in its Information Technology business.

Hoya said revenue from its contact lens sales also rose in the fourth quarter, up 6 percent on both a reported basis and constant currency basis. Sales of private brand products, including hoyaONE Luminous launched in February were solid, and online sales continued to show momentum, according to Hoya. Sales of intraocular lenses rose 10 percent in the fourth quarter, up 3 percent on a constant currency basis, the company said.
