NEW YORK—Eco Eyewear, a leading provider of sustainable eyewear, has released its 2023 Carbon Footprint Report. The study, conducted in accordance with international standards on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), aims to assess the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of three main product materials: biobased material, recycled metal and ocean plastic. Driven by what the company calls a dedication to understanding and controlling its environmental impact, Eco Eyewear initiated the study. The results revealed that each frame contributes an average of 1,482 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.

Specified per studied material, the carbon footprint was measured at 1,703 kilograms of CO2 eq for biobased frames, 1,447 kilograms for recycled metal frames, and 1,296 kilograms for ocean plastic frames. These figures underscore Eco Eyewear’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and implementing responsible production practices across its diverse range of frames from sustainable materials.

The analysis encompassed the complete lifecycle of the eyewear, including raw materials production, transportation, packaging, distribution and end-of life management. 

The purpose of the LCA study was twofold: to assess the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the three product materials and to enable transparent environmental communication with customers.

By releasing the 2023 Carbon Footprint Report, Eco Eyewear remains committed to playing an active role in combating climate change and setting the standard for environmental responsibility within the eyewear industry, according to the company.
