DEERFIELD, Ill. and MIRAMAR, Fla.—For Eyes, which initiated an optical partnership with Walgreens earlier this year, has expanded the arrangement with a new co-branded website featuring a wide assortment of eyewear available for purchase. The new website is accessible at walgreens.foreyes.com and was developed via a joint effort by both companies in just eight weeks, according to a For Eyes LinkedIn post about the new e-commerce offering. The new site requires patients to enter their existing eyeglass prescription information before ordering frames. It also has a menu tab for “contact lenses,” but the link directs shoppers back to a Walgreens-operated contact lens website.

“We are excited to be Walgreens’ exclusive provider of prescription glasses from their website,” For Eyes chief executive officer Jorge Gervasi said in a post on LinkedIn. “Anything we do with Walgreens is incredibly exciting —but we are particularly thrilled with this opportunity, as Walgreens is already the #2 seller of contact lenses in the country. They have a huge optical market, but no solution for prescription glasses. Until now.”

The partnership between the drugstore chain and For Eyes, a unit of international retailer GrandVision, kicked off with For Eyes opening optical departments inside 10 Walgreens in the Chicago area earlier this year. (The first For Eyes at Walgreens optical department opened in December on Chicago’s well-known Magnificent Mile downtown shopping hub on N. Michigan Avenue, according to the Walgreens’ website.)

Walgreens has nine other optical centers in the Chicago area—two others in the city and seven in the suburbs—that have been rebranded as For Eyes at Walgreens.

For Eyes, which operates more than 100 other locations in 11 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, offers comprehensive eye exams and a full range of optical services, as well as an expanded assortment of name-brand frames and lenses at its For Eyes at Walgreens locations. It also accepts most vision insurance plans.

Gervasi added on LinkedIn, “We are incredibly proud of what we have been able to accomplish. Most e-commerce websites can take up to a year to create and we did this in just 8 weeks. Dozens of people across both companies have been involved in building this new platform. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.

“This is the beginning of a very exciting chapter for us and the next step to our partnership with Walgreens,” he said.
