NEW YORK—Total Eye Care Partners (Total ECP) reports it has entered into a joint venture partnership with Alan Glazier, OD, FAAO and owner of Rockville, Md.- based Shady Grove Eye & Vision Care. Terms of the partnership were not disclosed, however Total ECP has taken a majority position in the partnership, the company told VMAIL. Founded by Dr. Glazier more than 23 years ago, Shady Grove Eye & Vision Care is one of the largest and most progressive independent medical-model optometric practices in the Washington, D.C. suburbs.

Bob Barton, president & CEO of Total ECP told VMAIL, “We are beyond enthusiastic to have one of the most respected names in the optometric field join our family and we welcome his entire team. Alan’s dedication to his patients and ODs across the country is a testimonial to his commitment to provide unmatched care within his community and leadership to his peers. He is the perfect addition to our team and together we look forward to an amazing future.”

Glazier lectures nationally and internationally and serves on numerous industry boards and advisory panels. In 2015, he was selected by his peers as one of the most influential optometrists nationwide. In 2017, he was named Optometrist of the Year in the state of Maryland. Dr. Glazier is the founder and visionary behind ODs on Facebook and, the eyecare industry's largest and most highly engaged eyecare organization, with over 34,500 members, according to the announcement.

ODs On Facebook is not part of the Total ECP joint partnership, Barton clarified, noting that Glazier will be consulting with Total ECP to develop marketing strategies.

Glazier told VMAIL, ”I’m excited for this next phase through affiliating with Total ECP. With their promise to maintain my practice legacy, Total ECP has created a new opportunity for optometrists looking for their next step. As an OD with a mature practice, the opportunity to shape an organization offering the first ‘legacy’ exit is particularly compelling; one in which my practice branding and mission remain intact. I am especially attracted to their commitment to medical-model optometry as part of their growth strategy. I look forward to helping pioneer this new vertical in our industry.”

Total ECP’s chief medical officer, Ben Gaddie, OD, added, “We are so excited to have Dr Glazier join our team as he represents the very best of our profession. His innovation and presence will be additive to our unique business model which allows the doctor to focus on patient care and patient experience.”

Paul Karpecki, OD, Total ECP medical director, added, “We are thrilled to have a practice of the level of Alan Glazier’s Shady Grove Eye & Vision Care and the impressive doctors of that group joining Total ECP. A comprehensive optometric practice that strives to succeed in optical, contact lens and medical eyecare is the ideal practice for us to partner and enhance. We welcome Alan Glazier and his team to our expanding Total ECP family.”

In connection with the transaction, Anne Kavanagh of Kavanagh Consulting provided financial advice to Shady Gove Eye & Vision Care.

Total ECP is focused on partnering with doctors who are engaged in their practice and want to pursue the full scope of optometry. Total ECP is backed by Imperial Capital, a medically focused private equity group in Toronto.
