Pelin Munis, Ph.D.

SAN FRANCISCO—Pelin Munis, Ph.D., has been promoted to the position of chief executive officer of RestoringVision. Leading the global nonprofit through a period of growth this year, the organization will reach 3.5 million people living on less than $2 a day with the vision services and eyeglasses they need to see clearly. Munis joined RestoringVision as its executive director in 2015. The organization’s board of directors promoted Munis to the position of CEO at its Nov. 3 meeting as RestoringVision has rapidly expanded throughout the past year and aims to scale its programs even further over the course of 2023 and beyond.

Together with the RestoringVision team, Munis recently achieved the organization’s most significant milestone yet—reaching more than 22 million people globally with its vision services and eyeglasses since the organization’s inception in 2003.

Under her leadership, RestoringVision has built a network of 2,500 NGO and government partners that have added vision programs to their work, the announcement pointed out. Through advocacy and the building of these strategic partnerships, RestoringVision has expanded its vision programs from 70 countries to 144 countries since Munis joined the organization in 2015.

RestoringVision now has a growth trajectory in which 10 million people could be impacted by its services worldwide annually as it secures new philanthropic investments.
