NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.--Converse and REM Eyewear have announced a five-year extension of their partnership to produce Converse Eyewear globally through 2012.

First partnered in 1988, this year marks the 20th anniversary for Converse and REM Eyewear as one of the strongest partnerships in developing a successful extension of the iconic brand, according to a joint statement from the companies. This anniversary also coincides with the centennial year of the Converse brand, based here.

Founded in 1908, the Converse brand has built a reputation as “America’s Original Sports Company” and has a rich heritage of making legendary shoes like the Chuck Taylor All Star, the Jack Purcell and the One Star. Inspired by music, art, sports and fashion, the Converse Eyewear line from REM is designed to appeal to originals and trendsetters of all ages who want to express their individuality through a wide range of styles, REM noted in their announcement.
