Let’s face it, football is a very statistical game. And as we all know, for play-by-play announcers and color commentators, there is no shortage of stats on any given Sunday. With only one day left until the season’s biggest game, VMAIL Weekend thought it would be a kick to list some fun facts about Super Bowl LVII as well as some stats from games in past years.

When the Philadelphia Eagles face the Kansas City Chiefs at 6:30 tomorrow night, it is estimated that nearly 193 million adults will tune into Fox TV to watch the big game, according to data from National Retail Federation (NRF) and Prosper Insights & Analytics’ 2023 Super Bowl survey.

This year, 103.5 million people plan to throw or attend a party, and another 17.8 million plan to watch the game at a bar or restaurant. And although there have been predictions about a looming recession, apparently when it comes to the Super Bowl, money is no object. Total spending on food, drinks, apparel, decorations and other purchases for the day is expected to reach $16.5 billion, or $85.36 per person, the survey said.

According to Sports Illustrated, Super Bowl Sunday is the second-largest food consumption day in the United States, behind only Thanksgiving. One in seven Americans will order take out, and 60 percent of those orders are for pizza. Well over a billion chicken wings are eaten, and it is estimated that Americans will consume around eight million pounds (4,000 tons) of avocados.

And if you are lucky enough to actually attend the game at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the average cost for a single ticket is more than $5,000. Ka-ching!

As promised, here are 10 fun facts about past Super Bowls and Sunday’s big game.
