Miller’s foundation, Von’s Vision, has given away over $4 million in eyecare and fashionable eyewear to students in need in 11 cities across the country.

All eyes will be on Los Angeles Ram linebacker Von Miller when he returns to the Super Bowl next Sunday night. Back in 2015, Miller was named Super Bowl MVP after the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. But before he takes the field at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, he will be giving back to his new hometown of L.A. (Miller was traded by the Broncos to the Rams in November 2021). On Saturday, Feb. 12, with the help of eyewear brand Etnia Barcelona, Miller’s foundation, Von’s Vision, will host a one-day vision clinic for Super Bowl LVI to provide vision care and medical advice to low income children in Los Angeles.

Von’s Vision, kicked off in 2013 and since that time, Von’s Vision has given away over $4 million in eyecare and fashionable eyewear to students in need across the country. According to a 2018 VM profile, Miller himself is no stranger to eyecare and eyewear, since he has needed vision correction throughout most of his playing career. His vision is 20/475 in one eye and 20/500 in the other, according to reports, and he’s also very involved and cognizant of frame designs.

Von’s Why:
“As a child, Von remembers times when he went to school without glasses or was made fun of because of his glasses. Without glasses, it was impossible to see, impossible to get any work done, and with glasses nearly impossible to maintain a positive self-image. Today, for many children, receiving glasses isn’t something they embrace and look forward to. They get made fun of because their glasses aren’t cool, or they don’t have glasses and they can’t see. Children with vision challenges come to a Von’s Vision program, receive eyecare, and then show up at school with a pair of fashionable, brand new glasses that were given to them by Von Miller. That child goes from being the least to the beast.”

Miller told VMAIL Weekend, “This year we’re hosting a Von’s Vision Day in L.A. to celebrate the Super Bowl being in L.A. this year. Last year, we hosted a Vision Day for the Super Bowl in Tampa. We want to give back to the community by providing local students with free vision exams and glasses so they can be their best in the classroom.”

Von’s Vision will host its annual event offering 150 low-income children, ages 5 to 18, with eyecare and corrective eyewear. The program will be held at the Challengers Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles on February 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Several local optometrists and specialists from Vision to Learn will be on-site to conduct no-cost comprehensive optical examinations and provide medical advice. Those with severe visual impairments will then be fitted for a new pair of optical frames, courtesy of the Etnia Barcelona Foundation.

This past November, newly-traded Los Angeles Rams linebacker, Von Miller, held his first Dallas-based Von’s Vision Day program at his former high school, DeSoto High School, near Dallas, Texas.

Etnia Barcelona launched its foundation in 2015 with the objective of providing visual care and assistance to underprivileged families achieving a better view for them and a better quality of life. The program, which started locally in Europe, has expanded outreach efforts in Africa and now North America.

This Super Bowl themed experience will hopefully make a visit to the eye doctor memorable and fun as kids will enjoy free giveaways, activities, games, food and more. And since Miller will be preparing for the Big Game on Sunday, his mother, Gloria Miller, will be on-site in the morning to help host the vision day in Von’s place.

The pre-Super Bowl Vision Day in Los Angeles will be the 8th state and 11th city that Von’s Vision is serving. Other cities the foundation has visited include Denver, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Miami, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Houston, and Miller’s hometown of Dallas. Launching a Dallas chapter of the Von’s Vision Foundation has been a goal since the start, said Miller. “On the day of the program, 74 percent of the 125 Von’s Vision kids we met needed glasses. Welcome to the Von’s Vision Foundation, Dallas, I’m so proud to be able to help."
