NEW YORK—The national average for gross revenue at ECP locations increased last week, Dec. 13-19, at a rate of 3 index points. That brings gross revenue to a level between where it was at this point in time (Week 51) during 2019 (2 index points below) and last year (1 index point above), according to Jobson’s most recent Practice Performance Tracker. Sales increased in all optical categories last week at rates ranging from a high of 5 index points for contact lenses to a low of 1 index point for exams/refractions and lens pairs when comparing last week with the previous week of Dec. 6-12.

With all optical sales categories increasing last week, their index levels all improved in relation to an average week in 2019—the index baseline assigned a value of 100 for this Optical Business Tracker. While the contact lenses category inched closer to that benchmark, it remains the only optical sales category remaining below an average week in 2019.

Jobson Optical Research selected 1,500 optical locations that have been operating and reporting their sales to its partners, GPN and ABB Analytics, since 2019. The index has been rebased to an average week in 2019. Going forward, this new index base will be used as an arbitrary benchmark and assigned a value of 100.
