CALGARY, Alberta—FYidoctors recently opened a brand new state-of-the-art ophthalmic laboratory facility in Delta, British Columbia. The new 47,000 square foot lab, which is expanded and upgraded from the group’s former lab location, is one of the most technologically advanced laboratories in all of North America, the company stated, noting that it will service all FYidoctors clinics as well as Vision Source practices in Canada.

The new lab is producing and/or distributing a broad range of products including 100 percent freeform lenses, stock lenses, coatings, brand label contact lenses as well as exclusive, branded and private label frames.

Dr. Alan Ulsifer, president and CEO of FYidoctors, told VMail, “This move will enable us to really scale up our service levels.” He added, “We are committed to providing the highest quality products and services in an exclusive optometry-branded environment. Although we tested multiple other models, we landed on the need to produce our products in Canada. The new facility was an absolute must for us in meeting the demands of our ongoing growth and in our commitment to lead the industry in delivery times. I am pleased to say we are progressing well beyond our expectations.”

Ulsifer noted, “Like most optical groups and manufacturers, we tested the concept of sourcing all of our lenses offshore. Although there was an economic benefit, in the end, nothing can provide the type of service, speed and quality of service that can be delivered in our own facility. It’s our staff that works tirelessly to serve our patients that are going to provide everything our patients need in a way like no other source and this is something we believe will be a differentiator for us.”

FYidoctors, based here, is a private, optometry-owned, eyecare company and Canada’s largest provider of ophthalmic products and services with over 450 optometrists servicing over 280 locations between its corporately owned locations and Vision Source Canada locations.
