RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.—Managed vision care company, Superior Vision has signed an agreement adding Costco Optical to its eyecare provider network. Members will be able to use their vision benefits at Costco Optical locations beginning early 2014. While Superior Vision members will not be required to have a Costco membership in order to receive an eye exam from the Costco Optical optometrist, they will be required to have a Costco membership to access materials through the optical department.

Costco Optical’s 437 locations nationwide provide frames, prescription lenses, contact lenses, and a variety of lens options. Most Costco Optical locations have an independent doctor of optometry in or near the optical department to provide comprehensive eye exams. These ODs are contracted individually, and those who choose to join will be in-network. Materials from Costco Optical will also be considered in-network. Benefit coverage and allowances are the same at Costco as with other Superior Vision eyecare providers.

“Superior Vision members now have access to all major retail chain locations as in-network providers,” Zon Dunn, vice president of provider relations, Superior Vision told VMail. “We are the only vision carrier to provide this. The member’s benefits are the same at Costco as they are for all retail chains and independent eyecare providers. Adding Costco Optical to the network is another example of providing choice and flexibility to our members.”

Denise Mogil, director of professional services, Costco.

“We are thrilled to join forces with Costco to give our members such a well-respected, customer-focused network option,” said Dunn. “Costco is a leader in delivering excellent value, and their optical staff is highly knowledgeable about vision materials. We are working together to ensure that our members’ vision benefits experience is seamless and delivered with the excellent customer service for which both companies are known.”

“We are looking forward to our partnership with Superior Vision. Both companies share the same vision for exceptional service and quality,” said Denise Mogil, director, professional services, Costco.
