St. LOUIS —Since 2005, Optometry's Fund for Disaster Relief (OFDR), a program of Optometry Cares—The AOA Foundation, has distributed more than $1 million in financial assistance to over 500 doctors and students in at least 32 states, the organization said, noting that OFDR can provide support to doctors who have experienced property damage to their home or business as a result of civil unrest or natural disasters. The organization said, "In times of stress and disruption, Optometry’s Fund for Disaster Relief can provide support so that doctors impacted can return to providing eye and vision care in their communities."

To apply for disaster relief aid as well as for those who would like to donate to the cause, the organization suggests people visit the site.

“Through involvement with Optometry’s Fund for Disaster Relief, the family of optometry can again join together in united and immediate action to aid impacted doctors of optometry and the communities they serve,” noted AOA president Barbara L. Horn, OD. “It’s long been a priority to deliver disaster relief support whenever and wherever it’s needed by doctors of optometry, and that’s the mission today.”

Optometry Cares—The AOA Foundation is committed to raising awareness about the importance of eye health, increasing access to vision care, and providing support to doctors of optometry and students in need.
